Wayside is currently looking for candidates for the following three positions:

Elementary Teacher | Full Time

Our Lady of the Wayside Catholic School, a K-12 Catholic classical liberal arts school, seeks a talented and dynamic full-time elementary teacher to join our team starting in the 2024-25 academic year. The successful candidate will be able to teach a split-level class in all subject areas.

A minimum of a bachelor’s degree is required. Three to five years of teaching experience is preferred, as well as experience in and passion for Catholic classical education.

The candidate must be a practicing Catholic and willing to take the Oath of Fidelity to the Magisterium. Candidates must demonstrate excellent organizational, written and verbal communication skills, and should possess a track record of contributing to the vision and mission of an apostolic and educational enterprise.

In addition to their teaching responsibilities, teaching staff are to promote character and virtue, and to help students grow in holiness. Teachers are required to attend daily Mass with the entire student body, and assist in spiritual leadership and other school activities.

School Secretary

Job Description: We are seeking a diligent and organized School Secretary to join our educational institution. The School Secretary will be responsible for providing administrative support to the school’s administrative team, faculty, students, and parents. This role requires exceptional communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently. The ideal candidate will be proficient in office software applications, possess excellent interpersonal skills, and thrive in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Greet visitors, students, and parents in a professional and friendly manner.
  2. Answer phone calls, take messages, and route calls to appropriate staff members.
  3. Maintain and update student records, including attendance, enrollment, and health records. Also, records management of school, including archiving and data management.
  4. Assist the school coordinator in organizing school events, meetings, and parent-teacher conferences.
  5. Manage school correspondence, including emails, letters, and announcements.
  6. Coordinate the distribution of school forms, permission slips, and other documents to students and parents.
  7. Assist in managing the school’s calendar and scheduling appointments for staff and administrators.
  8. Handle incoming and outgoing mail, deliveries, telephone, and internet services.
  9. Maintain office supplies inventory and place orders when necessary.
  10. Perform general clerical duties, such as filing, photocopying, and data entry.
  11. Bookkeeping to include but not limited to; payroll, journal entries, transactions, reconciliation, prep for auditing and other tasks as required.
  12. Assist Headmaster as required including onboarding/development of staff, parent and student tours/orientation and operational systems of the school.
  13. Assist with daily operations of the school during headmaster absences
  14. Maintain school website to reflect current info on staff, tuition, upcoming events, etc.
  15. Regularly update school’s social media properties (i.e. Facebook, Instagram, Twitter)

Education and Experience:

  • High school or equivalent required.
  • Previous experience in a clerical or administrative role, preferably in an educational setting, is desirable.
  • Familiarity with school management software systems is a plus.
  • Experience in bookkeeping preferred.

Working Conditions:

  • This position is performed in an office environment within a school setting.
  • May require occasional evening or weekend work to support school events or meetings.

Renumeration:  Monday to Thursday 8am till 4:30pm (1/2 hour unpaid lunch) – 8 paid working hours per day and 32 hours per week. Additional evening hours as required for meetings and events.

  • August 19th 2024 to July 11th 2025
  • Estimated 46 weeks/1,472 working hours.
  • Annual renewal

Rate of Pay:

  • $18 – $22 per hour, depending upon experience
  • 4% vacation paid on each pay.

Unpaid Vacation Time is:

  • One week at Christmas
  • One week at Easter

Coordinator

Job Description: We are seeking a creative and detail-oriented Coordinator to join our school’s administrative team. The Coordinator will be responsible for planning, organizing, and executing a wide range of school events and activities, including but not limited to assemblies, field trips, visiting speakers, various community and cultural events, fundraisers, parent-teacher conferences, and graduation ceremonies. This role requires strong project management skills, excellent communication abilities, and the ability to collaborate with various stakeholders to ensure successful events that enhance the school community’s experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Collaborate with school administrators, teachers, staff, and parent volunteers to plan and organize school events and activities.
  2. Develop event concepts, themes, and timelines, and create detailed event plans and budgets.
  3. Coordinate logistics for events, including venue selection, catering, entertainment, transportation, and audiovisual requirements.
  4. Liaise with vendors, sponsors, and contractors to negotiate contracts, secure services, and ensure timely delivery of goods and services.
  5. Create promotional materials and marketing campaigns to generate interest and attendance for school events and fundraising.
  6. Manage event registration processes, ticket sales, and attendee communication.
  7. Coordinate volunteer recruitment, training, and supervision for event support roles.
  8. Oversee event setup, execution, and breakdown, ensuring adherence to schedules and protocols.
  9. Monitor event budgets, and track expenses.
  10. Evaluate the success of events through attendee feedback, post-event/activity surveys, and recommendations for improvement.

  • This position may require flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to accommodate event schedules.
  • Work is primarily performed in an office environment, with occasional travel to event venues and off-site meetings.
